Head Start Supervisor

Introduction

Join our team at West Central Minnesota Communities Action as a full-time Head Start Supervisor and become an integral part of our Head Start leadership team, responsible for shaping and executing program services and operations. In this crucial role, you will focus on improving the quality and expanding the scope of early childhood education and family support services. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to build community partnerships and identify new center-based infant-toddler childcare opportunities across our seven-county service area. Prior experience as a Childcare Center Director and knowledge of the Child Care Assistance Program are desired qualities of this position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, agencies, and resources to support program viability and the needs of Head Start families.
  • To ensure the smooth operation of all Head Start components in program options
  • Coordinate and supervise the delivery of Educational and Family Support services in Head Start classrooms in compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, Minnesota Rule 3 Regulations and Agency Standards
  • Serve as advocate for children and families
  • Oversee the Head Start Family Education Specialists to:
    • Cultivate strong relationships with parents, to invite them to participate in all Head Start opportunities and to feel empowered in the Head Start programs.
    • Training parents in their role on parent committees and Head Start Policy Council.
    • Support election of parents from centers to Head Start Policy Council.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • BA Degree in Education, Sociology or related field with emphasis in Child and Family Development
  • Three years of experience in delivery of comprehensive programming for children and families including planning, organizing, and supervisory skills; or a demonstrated ability to fulfill the job responsibilities.
  • Meet minimum standards per Head Start Performance Standards and Minnesota Rule 3 Licensing
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal and written
  • Proof of valid driver’s license and current/adequate vehicle insurance coverage

Preferred

  • General knowledge of the Head Start program
  • Demonstrated understanding of diverse backgrounds and cultures

Head Start and Early Head Start Family Education Specialist

Essential Functions

  • Maintain connections with community partners and stakeholders to ensure ongoing program service offerings.
  • Monitor and plan for compliance and quality with Head Start Performance Standards, Minnesota Rule 3, and other regulations in the areas of Early Childhood services and Family and Community Partnerships.
  • Head Start supervisors will ensure each of their sites comply with program governance and membership of parents on Policy Council, elected through their parent committees.
  • Carry out written program plans, which are assessed and revised annually as led by the Head Start Management Team.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Early Childhood Development services component for Head Start.
  • Hire, train, coach, monitor and evaluate key Head Start classroom personnel.
    • Arrange and/or provide required and/or individualized training in all program service areas
    • Plan and execute identified staff training
    • Monitor classroom staff to ensure current CPR and First Aid certification
    • Monitor and evaluate HS/EHS Teachers (develop recommendations for hiring, termination, coaching and training)
    • Mentor classroom staff through the practice of reflective supervision
    • Advance staff performance by providing individual performance feedback based on expectations
    • Document/track staff performance
    • Train all HS/EHS Teachers in program governance as outlined in the agency policies.
  • Ensure a classroom that is safe, attractive and well equipped that meets all regulations.
  • Monitor the implementation of the Family Service System component.
  • Assure that family complaints are addressed and interventions take place if necessary.
  • Monitor the coordination of special education services for children with disabilities with local educational organizations.
  • Develop and maintain external collaborative partnerships (Transportation, School Districts).
  • Participate as active member of the Head Start Management Team.
  • Lead and guide the S.T.A.R. meetings, to review all services Head Start is responsible for delivering to children and families, or referring to partner agencies.
  • Create and submit reports to appropriate funding sources as necessary.
  • Carry out the Head Start Performance Standards and Minnesota Rule 3 Licensing and other related regulations.
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of all problems, unusual or extraordinary matters of significance coming to his/her attention, so that prompt corrective action can be taken as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor, including participation in Agency and program committees
