Governor Tim Walz has officially proclaimed May as Community Action Month in Minnesota!

This month, we celebrate the powerful impact Community Action Agencies have made—and continue to make—across our state and the nation.

🔹 A Legacy of Service
Community Action was born out of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s 1964 War on Poverty. For over 60 years, these agencies have been the front line in the fight against poverty, empowering families, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities where they’re needed most.

From helping families stay warm in the winter to providing early childhood education, job training, food access, housing support, and more—Community Action Agencies serve millions of Americans each year with compassion, dignity, and real solutions.

🔹 Right Here in Minnesota
Thanks to our local Community Action Agencies, thousands of Minnesotans gain access to resources that help them build brighter futures. Whether it’s weatherizing homes, offering transportation for seniors, or connecting people with affordable child care, the work they do uplifts entire communities.

This proclamation is a reminder that when we come together—neighbors helping neighbors—we can break down barriers and create lasting change.
