Housing Emergencies

Our first focus is on helping households address their immediate crisis situation by providing assistance for shelter/motel vouchers, rent, security deposits, or utilities. Our team works with households to develop a plan that works to build long-term stability, connecting them with other resources - both at WCMCA and within the communities.

If you or someone you know is at risk of becoming homeless or is already experiencing homelessness, please call (218) 405-3073 or stop by our office in Alexandria to complete an assessment for housing.

Supportive Housing Programs

Long-term Rent Assistance

WCMCA provides a wide array of supportive housing programs for households that are experiencing homelessness. Housing assistance is paired with supportive services to ensure that households are able to overcome their personal barriers to maintaining housing stability. While the eligibility criteria often change, the process to gain access to all housing programs remains the same. Our community has created a shared waiting list for all homeless programs through the CARES program. Its purpose is to streamline access to homeless services and make the system client-centered, rather than agency-centered. We use shared (common) assessment tools to prioritize people into housing based on their vulnerability (level of need).

How Do I Apply?

WCMCA’s Family and Community Services Department reviews each application to determine what program(s) a household may qualify for dependent on program guidelines, availability, and need.

There is one access point for all of WCMCA’s housing programs. Individuals are not able to pick and choose which programs they would like to apply for. Assistance is based on an assessment which prioritizes people into housing based on the level of need.

If you are in a housing emergency, please call our office to speak with a staff member regarding your situation and to find out if you should submit an application.

To apply, click on the red button to start your online application. Alternatively, you can download and complete the printed application, and mail or drop off the completed application along with proof of income and information documenting the emergency at either of our offices.
